COL - El Campeonato FIBA-Américas Femenino 2011 se celebrará en Neiva, Colombia:
NEIVA (Campeonato FIBA-Américas Femenino 2011) – El Campeonato FIBA-Américas Femenino 2011 se celebrará en Neiva, Colombia. El Presidente y Secretario General de FIBA-Américas firmaron el acuerdo con el Gobernador del Departamento del Huila Sr. Luis Jorge Sánchez García y el Presidente de la Federación Colombiana de Baloncesto, Sr. Jairo Romero. Este torneo clasifica al mejor equipo a las Olimpiadas del 2012 en Londres y los restantes tres equipos participan en el Pre-Olímpico Mundial FIBA que se jugará previo a las Olimpiadas. El coliseo Álvaro Sánchez Silva que fuera sede del Campeonato Sudamericano masculino hace unos meses, será la sede del evento mas prestigioso del baloncesto femenino en América. El Gobernador del Departamento del Huila agradeció a FIBA-Américas por la confianza depositada para la organización de este importante que se llevará a cabo en la ciudad de Neiva, capital del Departamento ubicada a unos 200 kilómetros al sur de Bogotá. El Sr. Muratore, Presidente de FIBA-Américas y Vicepresidente de FIBA, manifestó que la Federación y el gobierno se ganaron esa posibilidad por la excelente organización que realizaron durante el Campeonato Sudamericano. El Secretario General de FIBA-Américas, Alberto García, explicó el nuevo formato del campeonato ya que, por primera vez este evento se jugará con la participación de 10 equipos nacionales y que de aquí en adelante será siempre así. El objetivo de aumentar la cantidad de equipos fue para dar participación a dos países mas e incentivar la práctica del baloncesto femenino en el continente. Este torneo, a jugarse del 24 de septiembre al 1 de octubre, contará con la participación de Argentina, Brasil, Canadá, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Jamaica, México, Paraguay y Puerto Rico. Se formarán dos grupos de cinco equipos que jugarán todos contra todos dentro de su grupo y los dos primeros de cada grupo pasan a las semifinales y finales. Los tres restantes terminan su participación en el evento. Estados Unidos, al ganar el Campeonato Mundial Femenino en la República Checa, clasificó directamente a las Olimpiadas. El sorteo de los grupos se efectuará a fines del mes de Febrero o principios de marzo de 2011 en fecha a designar. COL - 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women to be played in Neiva, Colombia: NEIVA (2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women) – The 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women will be played in Neiva, Colombia. The President and the Secretary General of FIBA Americas signed a contract with the Governor of the Department of Huila, Mr. Luis Jorge Sanchez Garcia and the President of the Colombian Basketball Federation, Mr. Jairo Romero. This tournament qualifies the best team to the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the teams that finish from second to fourth place to the FIBA World Qualifying Tournament that will be played prior to the Olympics. The venue for the most prestigious women's event in America will be Coliseum Álvaro Sánchez Silva, the same that hosted the 2010 South American Championship. The Governor of the Department of Huila thanked FIBA Americas for the trust given to the organization of this event to be played in Neiva, capital of Huila which is 200 kilometers south of Bogota. FIBA Americas President and Vice-President of FIBA, Horacio Muratore, said that the Federation and the government earned this tournament because of the great organization shown in the South American Championship for Men. There will be two groups of five teams each that will play against each other in the group and the two top teams reach the semifinals and finals. The rest of the teams in the group end their participation in the tournament. The United States of America, by winning the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women in the Czech Republic, qualified directly to the Olympics. The tournament draw will be held at the end of February or at the beginning of March 2011.
