La siguiente es una lista de jugadores excluidos y suspendidos por la National Basketball Association (NBA). Según el artículo 35 de la Constitución de la NBA, el comisionado de la liga tiene poder para dictar medidas disciplinarias (ya sea la suspensión o multas inferiores a 50.000 dólares) a los jugadores por incidentes extradeportivos, conductas que no se ajusten a las estandartes del juego limpio y a las leyes federales o estatales, y conductas perjudiciales para el baloncesto o la propia liga.1​ Según el Convenio de Negociación Colectiva (en inglés: Collective Bargaining Agreement o simplemente CBA) de 2005 entre la Asociación de Jugadores de la NBA (NBPA) y la NBA, cualquier parte (jugador, equipo, la NBA o la NBPA) puede apelar a un árbitro si la suspensión es mayor de doce partidos o si una multa supera los 50.000 dólares. Si se presenta una apelación, el árbitro tiene el poder para defender o rechazar las decisiones adoptadas por el comisionado.2​ Si el incidente es lo suficientemente grave, como manipulación de resultados o abuso de sustancias prohibidas, los jugadores pueden ser excluidos indefinidamente, aunque los jugadores excluidos por abuso de sustancias son readmitidos dos años después debido al acuerdo antidrogas entre la liga y la NBPA.3​

A principios de existencia de la liga, varios jugadores fueron excluidos indefinidamente debido a su participación en escándalos de apuestas en la universidad, aunque Connie Hawkins consiguió anular su exclusión a través de demandas judiciales. Otros más fueron excluidos indefinidamente por abuso de sustancias prohibidas y por lo general nunca más volvieron a jugar en la liga, aunque algunos como Micheal Ray Richardson y Chris Andersen regresaron a la NBA tras su sanción. Entre los suspendidos, Ron Artest y Latrell Sprewell se enfrentaron al castigo más grave por altercados en la cancha; fueron suspendidos por 73 y 68 partidos, respectivamente. Gilbert Arenas fue también suspendido por más de la mitad de los partidos de temporada regular por llevar armas de fuego al pabellón y usarlas durante un altercado con un compañero en el vestuario.

However, the Warriors terminated Sprewell's $23.7 million contract two days later and he was subsequently suspended for a year (82 games) by NBA commissioner David Stern. Sprewell took the case to arbitration, and as a result, the termination of his contract was overturned and his suspension was reduced to 68 games.23​24​
50 games Gilbert Arenas Washington Wizards 2010 2009-10 On January 27, 2010, Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton were suspended for the remainder of the season by NBA commissioner David Stern for violating league rules and Washington, D.C. laws against bringing firearms into an arena.25​ Arenas was previously suspended indefinitely on January 6. They reportedly stored unloaded firearms in their lockers and drew guns on each other during an argument regarding gambling debts back in December 2009.26​
38 games Javaris Crittenton Washington Wizards 2010 2009-10 On January 27, 2010, Crittenton and teammate Gilbert Arenas were suspended for the remainder of the season by NBA commissioner David Stern for violating NBA rules and Washington, D.C. laws against bringing firearms into an arena.25​ They reportedly stored unloaded firearms in their lockers and drew guns on each other during an argument regarding gambling debts back in December 2009.26​
30 games Stephen Jackson Indiana Pacers 2004 2004-05 On November 20, 2004, Jackson was suspended indefinitely by NBA commissioner David Stern for his involvement in the Pacers–Pistons brawl. On the following day, the length of his suspension was determined to be 30 games.22​
26 games Kermit Washington Los Angeles Lakers 1977 1977-78 On December 9, 1977, Washington punched Houston Rockets player Rudy Tomjanovich in the face during an NBA game. Tomjanovich was seriously injured and missed the rest of the season. Washington was subsequently fined $10,000 and suspended 26 games by the NBA.27​28​

15 games Carmelo Anthony Denver Nuggets 2006 2006-07 On December 20, 2006, Anthony was suspended 15 games by NBA commissioner David Stern for his involvement in the Knicks–Nuggets brawl.30​
11 games Dennis Rodman Chicago Bulls 1997 1996-97 On January 15, 1997, Rodman kicked courtside cameraman Eugene Amos in the groin after tripping over him during an NBA game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Several days later, he was fined $25,000 and suspended 11 games.31​32​33​
10 games Vernon Maxwell Houston Rockets 1995 1995-96 On February 6, 1995, Maxwell entered the stands and punched a fan during an NBA game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Three days later, he was fined $20,000 and suspended ten games.34​
10 games J. R. Smith Denver Nuggets 2006 2006-07 On December 20, 2006, Smith was suspended ten games by NBA commissioner David Stern for his involvement in the Knicks–Nuggets brawl.30​

8 games Chris Webber Sacramento Kings 2004 2003-04 On February 17, 2004, Webber was suspended five games for violating the NBA's drug policy and suspended three games after he pleaded guilty to lying to a grand jury about making an illegal loan when he was a college basketball player for University of Michigan. He served both suspensions together.38​
7 games Nick Van Exel Los Angeles Lakers 1996 1995-96 On April 10, 1996, Van Exel shoved referee Ron Garretson into the scorer's table after Garretson ejected him for arguing a call during an NBA game against the Denver Nuggets. On the following day, he was fined $25,000 and suspended seven games.39​
7 games Rasheed Wallace Portland Trail Blazers 2003 2002-03 On January 15, 2003, Wallace confronted and threatened former referee Tim Donaghy at the parking lot outside of the Rose Garden after an NBA game against Memphis Grizzlies. Several days later, he was suspended seven games.40​

6 games Dennis Rodman Chicago Bulls 1996 1995-96 On March 18, 1996, Rodman head-butted referee Ted Bernhardt during an NBA game against the New Jersey Nets and was immediately ejected. On the following day, he was fined $20,000 and suspended six games.33​43​

(originally set to be 10 games)		 Maurice Taylor Houston Rockets 2003 2003-04 On November 8, 2003, Taylor was suspended a minimum of ten games for violating NBA's substance abuse policy.44​ After the National Basketball Players Association filed a grievance over the penalty, the league reduced his suspension to six games.45​
